Ponderings on Social Media and Escorting in St. Louis

I recently posted on the local message board asking “who has social media under their escorting or hobby identities”? It was my only other post besides my first one that introduced myself to the community.

Essentially, so far, it looks as if very few in St. Louis are into social media. I think there are concerns about lives crossing, and saying too much. A few expressed interest in blogging, but again, the revealing-too-much concern. Escorting is a business of risk management, and social media adds another dimension to the quandry.

I can totally understand why more escorts don’t participate: It takes alot of thought to blog authentically and meaningfully without saying anything. I don’t blog more, not for lack of what to write about, but because of the lines between the words once something is written. There is always the spoken and unspoken. What is written also, to some degree, nonverbally reveals more. What does the continuity, subject matter, frequency of posts, times posted… say about the author? Ofcourse, this is all open to subjective interpretation, which is another reason why I believe using social media isn’t more prevalent (who wants to risk wrong assumptions made?).

I obviously use social media as a Lady of Pleasure, so I must believe I get something out of it.

Specifically, I think that the benefits of using social media as an escort (in general) are:

  1. Nation-wide community… it’s been educational and inspiring to connect with other Ladies from across the country and world! There are some great minds out there.
  2. Keeping in touch with “fans” … Obviously, by hyping my upcoming photo shoot, informing those who “follow” me of picture updates, and general kissing-ass. Maybe my pithy tweets provide amusement. It’s nice to get feedback.
  3. Intriguing new Patrons… In this overwhelming sea of escort websites, advertisements, and general “www” information overload, my blog and social media presences give me a virtual “face”. It has attracted very compatible gentlemen, and might be one of the reasons for repeats.
  4. Search Engine Optimization and Website Value … Especially because I archive my Twitter Tweets on my blog, and because social media brings hits to my site and attracts search engines to “crawl” it, is reason enough to atleast blog. This site ranks highly.

Despite all the content, and my occasional philosophical posts, I don’t believe I end up saying too much. I never reveal when/where I go out with patrons, and I often pre-schedule my tweets and blog posts.

It’s all probably a bunch of self-promoting drivel in the end, but the benefits of carefully using social media as an escort make the extra few minutes a day worth it.

If I may offer an observation, I think one key thing that your posts (and tweets) do is to present “Rachel Benedict” as a person, a human being, rather than simply a walking/posing collection of “hot” body parts.

I see a similar presentation in “Amanda Brooks”‘s posts, on her blog.

Collections of body parts — even “hot” body parts — are commodities. When we look at a roomful of commodities, our impression can generally be summed up by saying that “they’re all alike.”

This is why our shopping decisions about commodities are basically based only on price: we usually choose the one with the lowest price. Because it doesn’t really matter *which one* we choose. And if that doesn’t matter, then why spend more on one than on another?

But people are unique. Each person is unique. And it’s the unique, the personal, that elevates decisions (and experiences) above the bargain-basement “they’re all alike” mindset. That’s what gets the customer out of the “who has the lowest price” mindset.

Doesn’t that sound like the key difference between the kind of escort that you present here, and (say) the women Amanda found working at that Nevada brothel?

Yet many of the Internet ads I see from ladies who name themselves as “escorts” do present themselves as “hot” collections of body parts.

If this is how a person does see herself, then it could be hard for her to create a professional persona that is human and personal. At least, hard to do without presenting (what she may feel as) too much of her own humanity and her own personhood.

So this may have something to do with the basis on which she feels her value rests: on simply her “hot body”, or on her own worth as a unique human being.

It’s a rare person who can rely on that. Perhaps that is one of the reasons why it is the rare escort who is willing to use social media as you do.
